Automatic Watches

These watches are called automatic watches or self-winding watches because of the nature of their design. They are extremely popular in today’s watch wearing society. Automatic watches use the motion of the wearers arm to cause the turning of a semicircular rotor inside of the watch. This causes the mainspring to wind, thus allowing enough energy to be stored on average for approximately two days. This then allows the watch to keep ticking. There are many automatic watch mechanical designs, some allowing one direction winding and others allowing multiple direction winding. It’s amazing to believe that such mechanical designs have been in existence since the late 18th century. Automatic watches are a popular choice when choosing a new watch.

Chronograph watches

Chronograph watches are often used as a stopwatch and combine the essential use of a regular display watch. These watches will often have a sweep second hand which can be started, paused and zeroed. There are more complicated chronograph mechanisms that can support even the timing of tenths of seconds. This particular design was invented in the early 19th Century by an inventor called Louis Moinet. These particular types of watches are now used for multiple specialisms, motorsports, diving, piloting aeroplanes and underwater sea vessel manoeuvring due to the precise nature of the timing.
“Chronos” a Greek word for time and the Greek word for writing, “graph” are what make up the meaning of chronograph. Which as you can identify, basically means, the recording of time. Check out our best chronograph watches for men lists here.

Diver Watches

Diver watches as you can imagine are designed specifically for that purpose, to be submerged deep within water without damage to the watch and watch mechanism. Diver watches have increased in popularity since the 19th century with a breakthrough in the 1900s, these watches were deigned to specification for the customer and often described as being “Explorer’s Watches”. Traditional hard hat divers would use pocket watches positioned on the inside of their helmet to be able to measure time spent under the water.
There are now many manufacturers of diving watches, one of the market leaders being Rolex.

Diving watches have specific measurements to help identify what their capabilities are. The standard diver’s watch will have a water resistance level of around 200 to 300 meters, however as a minimum they require water resistance greater than 1.0MPA (10atm) which is the equivalent of 100m.
The International Organization for Standardization regulates the production of divers watches by means of the ISO 6425 and outlines minimum requirements for mechanical diver’s watches these include the presence of clear minute marking on the watch face, adequate reading at 25cm in total darkness, an indication that the watch is in total darkness, chemical resistance, magnetic resistance, shock resistance and watch strap solidity as well as several other requirements. To meet these standards, the watch manufacturer must present their watch for certification declaring that they meet the ISO 6425.

Couple Watches

Wearing couple watches can be quite an endearing expression of love and similarity. It demonstrates that both persons are sharing that unique harmony with one and other. There are many coupling of accessories, clothing and jewellery that can be bought to express this token of appreciation for one and other, the most obvious being wedding rings and of course, matching Christmas jumpers. For men’s and women’s couple watches, they often come in two variations, identical which means they are similar to each other but the only differences are the size of the strap and watch face or the complimentary style couple watches, which means they are often different in colour, size but have comparable shapes.
If you are looking for that gift for Valentine’s Day , couple watches can demonstrate your love and appreciation for that special person in your life.

Fashion Watches

Fashion is constantly evolving in today’s society. Trends come and go and new designs and images appear daily. Fashion watches however can be both timeless fashion pieces used to accompany a strong outfit or a subtle expression of conscientiousness. Fashion as you will know, is reflective of the person, whether you look to buy to meet the season’s trends, or you purchase to express yourself. Fashion watches can often complete your look.
Fashion allows the person to express their current personality and interests, it allows for the person to reveal their likes and interests. Fashion watches can reinforce how you want to be portrayed; they often reveal your current behaviours.

The colour of your outfit or fashion watch will often reflect your current mood and also psychology influence the people you interact with. Black for instance is often associated with authority and power, a nice black/dark suit with a strong watch can demonstrate that you are meaning business. White, meaning innocence, red is deemed to be a colour to attract attention, blue is associated with calmness, green is the easiest colour on the eye and is both a calming and refreshing colour, a darker green represents masculinity and wealth.
